Over the years, our community has weathered some serious events. From the devastation of Hurricane Irene in 2011 to the widespread outages caused by Super Storm Sandy in 2012, our region has felt the full force
of nature. Sandy, in particular, left most of our town without electricity for over a week — a clear reminder of just how disruptive these storms can be.
At Woodstock Hardware, we have learned a lot from these challenges. We’ve stayed open, stocked up, and supported our neighbors through power outages, frozen roads, and flooded homes. That hands-on experience has shaped how we prepare — and how we help our customers prepare, too.

2. Stay Informed Get a Radio
If the telephone and Internet go down along with the power grid, a battery powered radio will be your only source of weather and emergency information. You can use your car radio but that will run down your car battery or use up the gas in your car. Plus, it may be cold outside. Your radio will let you listen to the news anywhere.

From the national Weather Service. There is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm. Just remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors.” Too many people wait far too long to get to a safe place when thunderstorms approach. 3. Conserve Batteries, Use LEDS.

8. Store Water. Fill Tub
It is easy to forget how much we depend on water during the day. Washing our hands, brushing our teeth, drinking, flushing the toilet, etc. Fill up as many buckets and bottles for washing, flushing and drinking before the storm is predicted to hit.
